Teachers in meeting

Teacher Attendance

Washington School teachers have a very high attendance rate. They know the importance of face-to-face time with their students and how much of an impact this time has on student learning.

Participation in staff development and evidence of impact on teaching

The district holds multiple professional development days throughout the school year that are focused on district initiatives. Elementary grade levels also have collaborative meetings to navigate through the various initiatives while concentrating on best practice in the subject areas. Staff are encouraged to seek additional professional development opportunities to further enhance their professional talents.

Teacher turnover rates

Turnover rates at Washington are quite low. Most turnover occurs due to teacher retirement.

How technology contributed to use of data for decision-making

With the initiation of our Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) computer-based assessments, teachers have excellent up-to-the-minute data to help them make instructional decisions for their students. The areas of focus for MAP is reading, math, and language skills. Since these assessments occur multiple times in the year, teachers can target individual growth for students.

Survey results (climate survey)

Washington School has initiated a comprehensive Character Education program for K-5 students beginning in the 2008-2009 school year. In preparation for the program, Washington staff conducted a survey for students and staff to help guide the program's implementation. Subsequent surveys will be done to provide feedback as to the program's direction.
